Monroe County had the lowest growth rate in 10 years (1,565 or 20/0) of all the 67 Florida Counties and possibly the nation as well. . The White population in Monroe County went from 82 % in 1990 to 77 % in 2000. A decrease of 5 % or 3,900 White . The Hispanic population in Monroe County went from 12 % in 1990 to 16 % in 2000. An increase of 4 % or 3,120 Hispanic . The Black population in Monroe County remained at 5 % from 1990 to 2000. A total of 3,900 Black. . The Other population in Monroe County increased from 1 % in 1990 to 2% in 2000. An increase of 1 % or 780 Other. . The ability to classify people as multi-racial in Census 2000 would account for the differences in numbers as "Others". .
