A, RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE UNITED
STATES NAVY SEEK OTHER HOUSING SITES AS
ALTERNATIVES TO PEARY COURT, AND SUGGESTING

Monroe has enjoyed a long tradition
Navy with regard to their facilities
Boca Chica and Key West, and
WHEREAS, the City of Key West is an area that lacks adequate
recreational facilities for its citizens, both civilian and
military, and
WHEREAS, the area known as Peary Court has recently been
used for recreational purposes, and as a contingency area for
emergency military mobilization, but is now the proposed site for
a 160-unit Naval housing project, with a consequent loss of the
recreational area to the detriment of the entire community, and
WHEREAS, the Navy and other services have the ability to
select alternative sites for this very important Naval Housing,
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida:
1. That the County respectfully requests the Navy and any
other services to seek alternative housing sites at Sigsbee Park,
Trumbo Point, Truman Annex, the Naval Hospital, or other sites in
proximity to the City of Key West, other than Peary Court,
consonant with the needs of the services.
2. That the Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to
forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Commandant of
the 5th Naval District.
