ITEM BACKGROUND: The libraries were closed on Mondays starting March 2008--a mid-year budget correction. The Public th has expressed a continued interest in reestablishing library hours to include a 6 day. The Monroe County Library system has seen significant increased usage. People of all ages and backgrounds are doing more than just reading a novel or taking out DVD's. They are using the library's services for job and career development, vital for economic and revenue growth. For Monroe County to meet the growing and unmet needs of our population and for our future well-being, restoring a sixth day to the library system will give dividends with long-term benefits. According to the latest statewide assessments, the Monroe County Library system offers a $4.97 ROI for each public dollar invested. The correlation to economic impact - and quality of life - is dramatic. The value of an educated work force, and community, imbued with ideas and imagination, are the very fuel for a vibrant, attractive, employer and employee environment.
