AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Confirmation of the County Administrator's appointment of
Cathleen Crane to the position of Department Head, Veterans Affairs.
ITEM BACKGROUND: Gary Johnson resigned from the Director of Veterans Affairs position in
December 2018 and his last day will be March 1, 2019. An interview committee was established and
membership included: County Administrator Roman Gastesi, Employee Services Director Bryan
Cook, Current Veterans Affairs Director Gary Johnson, Marathon City Manager Chuck Lindsey and
Commander of VFW Post 3911 Abe Conn.
Ms. Cathleen Crane was chosen based on her military and civilian experience, education and
certifications. Ms. Crane currently serves as the Vice Chair for the Wounded Warrior Project Soldier
Ride, is an active member of the Military Affairs Committee and is a past officer of the Veteran of
degree in Forensic Accounting.
We are seeking confirmation of this selection by the Board of County Commissioners at a starting
salary of $103,407.95. The pay grade is 121 and the salary range of the position is $73,986.36-
$114,678.85.
