APRIL EARTH MONTH
and
APRIL 22 EARTH DAY 2011
WHEREAS,
it is very important that we as a county set aside a month and a special day for
environmental awareness; and
WHEREAS,
all people should be aware of the protection of the environment for the future of human,
animal and plant life; and
WHEREAS,
; and
WHEREAS,
as a result of environmental awareness many laws have been created to protect land,
water, species and air; and
WHEREAS,
our environment directly impacts the quality of life for everyone in Monroe County and
an increased awareness of this issue will lead to the continued improvement of our community.
NOW, THEREFORE,
I, Heather Carruthers, by virtue of the power vested in me as Mayor of
Monroe County, Florida, hereby proclaim the month of April, 2011 as
EARTH MONTH, and April 22, as EARTH DAY
Recycling Champion. Encourage your neighbors, co-workers, and friends to THINK before they throw
an item in the trash. Despite making strides in improving our recycling, between 75 to 80% of our
residential waste is still going to the Waste to Energy plant.
