ITEM BACKGROUND: Members of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and the Tourist Development Council (TOC) created a tourism survey as per the request of the BOCC. This survey gives Monroe County's registered voters an opportunity to express their feelings and perceptions of the benefits and burdens of tourism. A senior researcher with the University of Miami (UofM) has been in charge of compiling the data from the surveys and preparing a report on the survey findings. The DRAFT copy of this report was received by the Planning Department on February 8, 2000. The IDC reviewed this DRAFT report at their February 9, 2000 meeting in Key Largo. A formal presentation of the survey results will be made at the March 16, 2000 BOCC meeting in Marathon. The potential management implications of the survey can be discussed by all interested stakeholders at this March meeting, since the final survey report from the UofM will be available on February 18, 2000. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOARD ACTION: There was a joint Tourist Development Council (IDC) and Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting held in Marathon on October 7, 1999 to discuss tourism.
