AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Discussion item: The Monroe County Commission is
responsible for the'levying and spending of taxpayer funds. It is imperative to
accomplish this task, to know and understand the current balances in the General and
Special Funds and the percentage of the balance to the annual expenditures.
ITEM BACKGROUND: There are many current needs for county taxes to be spent on
county parks, land purchases, building and office space and other county obligations. As
county government is not intended to save beyond prudent levels, a percent of each fund
balance should be capped for reserves over a three-year average balance.
