representatives of community organizations (neighborhoods, business, tourism, government,
environmental, etc.) to help us draft the Key West International Airport Master Plan,

Subject: Master Plan Update Kickoff and Public Involvement Meeting
On Tueday April 10, 2001, the Airport Master Plan Update kickoff/public information
meeting was held at the Marathon Airport Terminal in the departure area from 6:00 until
8:00 P,M. The meeting was conducted by Theresa Cook (Marathon Airport), Fred Nielsen
and Mike Thompson (URS). Approximately 35:1: persons were in attendance.
Fred Nielsen started the meeting by introducing Theresa and Mike, Mike followed with a
short presentation regarding the master planning process and proposed schedule. A
question and answer session immediately followed Mike's closing remarks,
Questions presented by the public included, but were not limited to the following:
. Why did the airlines decide to leave Marathon?
. What control (over the airlines) does the County have to make them serve
Marathon?
. Would the addition of an Airport Traffic Control Tower at Marathon bring the airlines
back?
. What can the airport do about airport-generated jet noise (overflights and run-ups)?
. Could the airport (County) impose the same operational restrictions banning jets
that Naples Airport is excersizing? (FAR Part 160)
. Why was the Airport Business Plan Study scheduled for the end of the master
planning process?
. Will the master plan include input from community leaders and planning
organizations?
. How much was the Master Plan Update and Business Planning studies costing the
County?
. Could the County issue a "Hotline" telephone number for reporting loud aircraft
(Similar to Key West)?
. Can the Airport control the early morning departure time for the jet aircarft [G-III] ?
Comment forms were offered. A total of three comment forms were turned in following
the meeting, Additional comment~ forms are expected via mail to URS within two weeks.
