"SAM" WAMPLER WHEREAS, on March 24, 2002 the Florida Keys Electric Co-op and Monroe County was saddened by the loss of Sam E. "Sam" Wampler who had served as president and chairman of the board for the past five years; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Monroe County lost a loyal friend and colleague; and WHEREAS, SAM WAMPLER moved to the Florida Keys in 1979 where he was very active in the community; and WHEREAS, SAM WAMPLER was past president and Rotarian of the Year of the Upper Keys Rotary Club; and WHEREAS, SAM WAMPLER honorably served his country, the co-op, his community, the Boy Scouts and most importantly, he served his family; and WHEREAS, SAM WAMPLER served with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War; and WHEREAS, SAM WAMPLER was a founding member of Save A Turtle, the Lower Matecumbe Key Association, Friends of the Islamorada Area State Parks, president for five years of the Coral Shores High School Athletic Association, and Scoutmaster for two years of Boy Scout Troop 914; and WHEREAS, SAM WAMPLER built and fulfilled dreams for millions of Boy Scouts worldwide; and WHEREAS, SAMUEL WAMPLER had been the Director of the Boy Scouts of America's Florida Sea Base on Lower Matecumbe Key since its inception in 1981; and WHEREAS, his zest for life, the love of his family and his devotion to the Boy Scouts of America was truly an inspiration to everyone who knew him. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA that: Section 1: The Board adopts this Resolution as an assertion of their sincere heartfelt gratitude to a distinguished, devoted and well-loved colleague for his years of outstanding service to the citizens of Monroe County and his true love and concern of his fellow man; and Section 2: The Board adopts this Resolution as an expression to the family of their regret and deepest sympathy in the passing of the late SAMUEL E. "SAM" WAMPLER; and Section 3: The Board adopts this Resolution as a permanent record of the esteem, respect and honor in which SAMUEL E. "SAM" WAMPLER was held by his colleagues, co-workers, citizens and friends. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 17th day of April, 2002.
