AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Approval of a resolution authorizing the County Administrator to submit under the Florida Keys
Scenic Highway Interpretive Master Plan grant application to FDOT under the FY 2003 FHW A
National Scenic Byways Grant Program and for the County Commission to serve as the coordinating
unit of government in the preparation of the grant proposals.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
On June 22,2001, US #1 from Mile Marker 0 to 106 was designated a Florida Scenic Highway, The
development of the Interpretive Master Plan will identify the corridor's scenic, archaeological,
historical, environmental and cultural assets and recommend mechanisms to enhance and protect these
qualities. In addition the Plan will develop the Florida Keys Scenic Highway storyline and recommend
the means in which to present and market this story to our residents and visitors.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
Resolution 316-2000, August 17,2000 resolution of the Tourist Development Council of Monroe
County supporting local efforts to seek Florida Scenic Highway designation for the Florida Keys
Overseas Highway.
Resolution 116-2001 on February 22,2001 supporting the Corridor Management Plan for the
designation of US 1 as a Florida Scenic Highway.
Resolution 204-2001 authorizing the submission of a grant application to the Florida Department of
Transportation for the FY 2002 FHW A National Scenic Byways Grant Program.
