AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to accept quote from Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. for
Bayshore Manor general liability policy. The policy term would be from April 16, 2002, to April 16,
2003. The carrier is National Fire & Marine Insurance. The cost is be $4,835.00. A deductible of
$250.00 will apply. '
ITEM BACKGROUND: The current policy is through Employers Insurance ofWausau at a cost of
$3,920,00. The coverage includes general liability, professional liability, and sexual abuse &
molestation. There are also some underlying coverages. Wausau decided to leave the Assisted Living
Facility market in Florida. Our broker has been trying to place the policy through various carriers, with
the same protection we presently have, However, the market is very limited at this time, due to capacity
restraints and loss ratios, experienced by the insurers that were writing this line of business. The
insurance carriers are charging more and providing less coverage than in previous years. Therefore, we
were only able to obtain a quote for general liability. There are additional less significant coverages that
come with this policy, The County's professional liability or sexual molestation and abuse exposures
are minimal. Florida Statutes require that Assisted Living Facilities maintain liability insurance. The
stature does not specify the types or amounts of insurance to be maintained.
PREVIOUS REVELANT BOCC ACTION: Approval of renewal with Employers ofWausau for the
2001 - 2002 policy period.
CONTRACT/AGREEMENT CHANGES: New policy for County Bayshore Manor general liability
coverage.
STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: Approval.
