He Graduated from the Florida Keys Community College in 1968, and then from Florida State University, with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work in 1970. After graduating from FSU, Louis worked with the State Florida Juvenile System for 3 years. Louis was then employed as the Director of Catholic Charities of Monroe County for 3 years. Mr. Latorre been in the Human Services field for approximately 31 years and was hired by Monroe County on February 1, 1977 as the Director of Social Services where he has served continuously. Mr. Latorre oversees the County's Welfare Program, the LIHEAP assistance Program, the Nutrition Program, In-Home Services Program, the Social Services Transportation, the Special Needs Registry, the Hurricane Emergency Evacuation Operations, the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and Bayshore Manor. Mr. Latorre supervises a total of over 120 employees in his Department. During Mr. Latorre's dedicated years of Monroe County employment he has accumulated many Letters of Commendation and Certificates. He is also Very active within the National Association of Counties (NACO), The Florida Association of Counties (FAC) , The Florida Association of Social Services Executives, and The Florida Association of County Aging Executives. Other distinguished accomplishments of Mr. Latorre include: The Past President of the Florida Association of Social Services Executives The Board of Directors of Florida Association of County Aging Executives The Board of Directors of the National Association of Human Services Administrators Mr. Latorre is Currently serving as: The President of the National Association of County Aging Executives He also serves on many Steering Committees such as Health, Human Services, Aging, Immigration, Welfare, and Medicaid Committees the National Association of Counties We honor Mr. Louis Latorre, the Senior Director of Social Services today after 25 years of dedicated and exemplary service to his fellow man and the Citizens of Monroe County.
