Creating Change: From Sunrise to Sunset with community events throughout the day beginning in Key Largo in the moming, moving to Marathon in the afternoon and Key West in the evening; and WHEREAS, In recognition that sexual violence crosses all socio-economic, ethnic, and religious divides, and impacts us as individuals and a community, the Mayor of MonroE;! County is sending this message throughout the Keys that it is indeed pOSSible to live in a'safe environment if we all work together to make the prevention of sexual violence a priority in our personal lives. our families and in our communities; and BE IT RESOLVED, That the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners will work within the County system of Goverhment to address the issue of sexual violence against Keys citizens by supporting community educational efforts, enforcing the legal prosecution of perpetrators, and ensuring that resources are available to victims to help facilitate the social change that will enable all citizens in our community to live our lives free, and safe from sexual violence. NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the power vested in me as Mayor of Monroe County, Florida, I, CHARLES 'SONNY' MCCOY, do proclaim the 17th day of April, 2002 as SEXUAL VIOLENCE AWARENESS DAY and urge all citizens to recognize those in our County who have suffered sexual violence, and to f~rther recognize the efforts of all those in our community who are actively involved in protecting the- lives of Key's citizens.
