WHEREAS, Falun Data. also known as Falun gong, a traditional qigong and
meditation system with an ancient Chinese heritage. based on the principles of Truthfulness,
Compassion and FOfbearance; and
WHEREAS. Falun Dafa emphasizes moral value. and health improvements and leads
sincere practitioners toward enlightenment; and -
WHEREAS, Falun Dafa has helped numerous people to tum away from alcohol. drugs,
violence, and other bad habits and to pursue more meaningful fives; and
WHEREAS. Falun Oafa's contribution to humanity has been widely recognized and
honored in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Falun Data classes are offered free to the public; and
NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the power vested in me as Mayor of Monroe County,
Florida. I. CHARLES 'SONNY' MCCOY, do hereby proclaim the week of May 13111 through May
19lh 2002 as
FALUN DAFA WEEK
in Monroe County, Florida, and encourage the residents of Monroe County to recognize and be
aware of the many positive benefits of Falun Dafa.

Dear Mayor Charles "Sonny" McCoy:
On behalf of Plorida Palun Gong practitioners, I am writing to respectfully request that you
proclaim May 13th through May 19th to be "Palun Dafa Week" in Monroe County, Florida.
Palun Gong (more formally called Palun Dafa) is an ancient system of qigong- gentle movement
and meditation- first taught publicly in China, In less than ten years, Palun Gong has grown to be
the most popular qigong system in the world, with over one hundred million practitioners in
more than fifty countries worldwide.
Palun Gong is a complete system of self-development, consisting of five simple exercises, which
can be performed by anyone regardless of age or physical condition. The exercises purify one's
body and mind, thus raising one's energy level and eliminating stress.
Falun Gong is based on the principles of Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance. Practitioners learn
to let go of negative thoughts and behaviors, and to view all conflicts not as difficulties but as
opportunities to grow. Palun Gong emphasizes that one must be a better person-a better worker,
a better family member, a better citizen- in order to improve health and increase wisdom,
Palun Gong is taught, completely free of charge, at dozens of practice sites in Plorida. We have
also held numerous free workshops to introduce Palun Dafa to the public, and these workshops
have been very well received.
Because the practice of Palun Gong offers so many benefits, we are eager to share it with
everyone. Thus, to better promote the beneficial effects of Palun Dafa to the local citizens, we
request that May 13th through May 19th be named as "Pal un Dafa Week" in Monroe County,
Florida. This would be a wonderful opportunity to introduce Palun Dafa to more citizens, so that
they can also benefit from it.
These dates coincide with our annual "Falun Dafa Day" celebrations marking the anniversary of
the first public teaching of Palun Gong. However, if these dates are unavailable, any date will do.
I have included some Falun Gong materials for you to read. If you would like further
information, please let me know. You and your family are also cordially invited to join us at any
