AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to name the new terminal at the Key West International
Airport for Charles "Sonny" and Merili Hilton McCoy. The building will be generically referred
to as the {{McCoy Terminal Complex".
ITEM BACKGROUND: The Key West International Airport has a tradition of naming its new
buildings after local citizens who have made significant contributions to the Key West
community. Merili McCoy dedicated her life to public service as a conservationist (founder of
the Tree Committee), and long-term City Commissioner. Sonny McCoy served as the Mayor of
the City of Key West for a decade, and is currently in his second term as a County
Commissioner, during which time he also served a year as Mayor of Monroe County. The
McCoy's have lived their lives serving their community, so it is fitting that this structure, which
will also serve their community for many decades to come; be named for them in their honor.
