the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS).
ITEM BACKGROUND:
Monroe County has been awarded a Class 3 rating in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
Community Rating System (CRS).
Achieving a preliminary Class 3 rating in the CRS increases annual savings to flood insurance for
14,400 policyholders in unincorporated Monroe County to $7.5 million dollars annually as of April
1, 2022. There will an annual average savings of $522 per policyholder. Cumulatively to date, the
County has saved policyholders approximately $22 million.
Unincorporated Monroe County joins a very elite group of other communities in a Class 3 or lower
designation. According to the NFIP Insurance Manual, the City of Ocala and Pinellas County are
currently the only communities ranked a Class 3, or lower of the more than 440 participating Florida
communities. Nationwide, only 18 communities ranked as a Class 3 or lower of the 1,520
participating communities.
