PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: CONTRACT /AGREEMENT CHANGES: STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: TOTAL COST: INDIRECT COST: BUDGETED: Yes No DIFFERENTIAL OF LOCAL PREFERENCE: COST TO COUNTY: SOURCE OF FUNDS: REVENUE PRODUCING: Yes No AMOUNT PER MONTH Year APPROVED BY: County Atty OMB /Purchasing Risk Management DOCUMENTATION: Included x Not Required DISPOSITION: AGENDA ITEM # Revised 7/09 WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month is a nationwide coordinated effort sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security each September to encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, and schools; and, WHEREAS, this event aims to increase public awareness concerning the importance of preparing for emergencies and to persuade individuals to take action; and, WHEREAS, during the month of September, the Monroe County Emergency Management Department will urge residents to take measures to make themselves and their families better prepared for emergencies; and, WHEREAS, being prepared includes creating an emergency supply kit containing items that will allow you and your family to survive for at least three days in the event of an emergency, developing a plan that addresses sheltering in place or evacuating the area, staying informed about different threats that could affect your community, and, WHEREAS, throughout the year, Emergency Management Department promotes emergency preparedness by maintaining Monroe County's designation from the National Weather Service as "StormReady," County and training communities and all emergency responders on disaster preparedness as well as maintaining the Monroe County Emergency Management Web site and the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan; and, WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners would like to officially recognize the Monroe County Emergency Management Department and its community partners that routinely offer their invaluable services to our community. Therefore, I, George R. Neugent , Mayor of Monroe County do hereby proclaim the month of September, 2013 as NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH And encourage residents to recognize the positive impact of emergency preparedness in our county and municipalities to thank those who serve, and to find ways to give back to their communities.
