A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA
ENCOURAGING GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS TO APPOINT
DR. DANIEL ZIEG TO THE FLORIDA HOUSING FINANCE
CORPORATION BOARD.
WHEREAS, Monroe County experiences unique challenges with maintaining a sufficient stock
of affordable housing for our local workforce; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Housing Finance Corporation was created by the state Legislature 40
years ago to assist in providing a range of affordable housing opportunities for residents that help make
Florida communities great places in which to live, work and do business; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Daniel Zieg has gained expertise in affordable housing through his service on
the Marathon City Council from 2014 to 2022 and its planning commission from 2011 to 2014; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Zieg also has experienced success with developing other projects outside of the
State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Zieg's tenure on the Marathon City Council recently ended when he reached
the maximum number of term limits set forth in the Marathon City Charter; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Zieg is intimately familiar with the affordable housing challenges facing local
governments throughout the Florida Keys; and
WHEREAS, the affordable housing challenges in Monroe County are intensified due to the
growth restrictions that the State of Florida has imposed on the on the Florida Keys through the Area of
Critical State Concern program; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Housing Finance Corporation has a vital role to play in addressing the
affordable housing challenges of the Florida Keys; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Housing Finance Corporation would benefit from the experience and
local insight that Dr. Zieg would bring to the table through sitting on its Board; and
WHEREAS, there are currently two vacancies on the Florida Housing Finance Corporation
Board, one for a former local government elected official and the other for a citizen representative; and
WHEREAS, no current member of the Florida Housing Finance Corporation Board is from
Monroe County nor has the local insight and experience possessed by Dr. Zieg; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Zieg's expertise and experience make him a natural fit to fill one of the two
vacancies on the Florida Housing Finance Corporation's Board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Board respectfully encourages Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint Dr. Daniel
Zieg to the Florida Housing Finance Corporation Board.
Section 2. The Clerk is directed to send a copy of this resolution to Governor Ron DeSantis, The
Capitol, 400 S. Monroe Street, Tallahassee, FL 32399-0001 by mail and by email to
