ITEM BACKGROUND: Illegal dumping and other illegal activities have been occurring at this location for quite some time resulting in damage to the conservation lands. All of the parcels on the west side of the road are vacant parcels owned by Monroe County and the State of Florida. The parcels on the east side of Center Road are privately owned lands accessible from Niles Road. A barricade is being requested to be placed just north of the Florida Keys Aqueduct Facility. As shown in the attached map, all of the parcels on the west side of the road are currently in public ownership (either Momoe County or the State of Florida). The parcels on the east side of Center Rd are privately owned lands that are accessible from Niles Rd. Therefore, it appears that this road is no longer needed for access. Currently, the road is accessible by vehicles, which enables dumping and other illegal activities. In order to avoid further dumping and damage to the conservation lands, I am requesting that a barricade of some kind be placed just north of the Florida Keys Aqueduct Facility. The barricade should allow for pedestrian access. I would be happy to meet with you on site to discuss the situation. Thank you for your help.
