AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Authorization for the Mayor to execute the Edward Byrne Memorial
Justice Assistance Recovery Act of 2009 Grant Certificate of Participation with the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement for fiscal year 2010 (Oct. 1, 2009 through Sept. 30, 2010), whereby
Monroe County agrees to act as the coordinating unit of government for this grant.
ITEM BACKGROUND: Federal funds are provided through FDLE. Florida Administrative Code
requires that units of government in each county reach consensus concerning the expenditure of
these funds, including the projects to be implemented as well as the agencies responsible for
implementation. This requires someone to assume a coordinating role in development of
applications for these funds. FDLE recommends that county commissioners assume this
responsibility. No match is required.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: None this year. Participation in Byrne Grant Program since
approximately 1990. The Substance Abuse Policy Advisory Board (SAPAB) has considered
proposals, approval of its recommendations, and approval of grant application is also on today's
agenda.
CONTRACT/AGREEMENT CHANGES: No sionificant chanoes from previous vear. Grant amount is
$410.521: no local match required.
