AGENDA ITEM WORDING: The Green Initiative Task Force (GITF) recommends
that the Board of County Commissioners require that incandescent lights be replaced by
compact florescent lights (CFL) in County owned buildings on an attrition basis when
possible or practical.
ITEM BACKGROUND: The CFLs are more expensive to purchase initially but last up
to 10 times longer, and save more energy than incandescent bulbs. A 22 watt CFL has
about the same light output as a 100 watt incandescent. Compact fluorescent light bulbs
use 50 - 80% less energy than incandescent light bulbs.
The Green Building Task is authorized to recommend to the BOCC environmentally
sound practices and techniques to protect the environment.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: In addition, the GITF has been approved
to apply for two grants.
