RESOLUTION NO. 288-1989
A RESOLUTION SOLICITING THE COOPERATION OF
DADE COUNTY IN DEVELOPING FUTURE SOLID WASTE
MANAGEMENT FACILITIES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH
MONROE COUNTY.
WHEREAS, both Dade and Monroe Counties face serious solid
waste management challenges in the near and distant future, and
WHEREAS, the Florida Keys are an extremely sensitive area
environmentally, and
WHEREAS, a sub-regional solid waste management facility
located in southern Dade County would be convenient to both
counties and would provide economic benefits to both by being
larger and more cost-efficient than facilities currently in use,
and
WHEREAS, the economies of scale would be available to
develop additional methods of handling solid waste, such as
recycling, composting and waste-to-energy, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the cooperation of Dade County is
earnestly solicited for the purposes expressed above.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 23rd day of May, 1989.
