RESOLUTION NO. 264-1986
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE OF FLORIDA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO ENTERTAIN THE
REQUEST AND PETITION OF CERTAIN BUSINESS
MERCHANTS ON BIG PINE KEY, MONROE COUNTY,
FLORIDA, AS RELATES TO A SIGN TO BE AFFIXED
TO THE TRAFFIC LIGHT ON U.S. HIGHWAY 1 IN BIG
PINE KEY.
WHEREAS, a petition has been filed by certain business
merchants on Big Pine Key concerning the affixing of a direction
sign on the traffic light located on Big Pine Key at U.S. Highway
1, and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,
Florida, desires to aid and help these merchants by passing their
request on to the State of Florida Department of Transportation,
now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
1. That the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida, hereby requests the State of Florida Department
of Transportation to entertain, if at all possible, and comply
with the request of the merchants on Big Pine Key who express in
a petition heretofore filed with the Board of County
Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, a copy of which is
marked as Exhibit "A" and attached hereto and made a part hereof
by direct reference, a need for a directional sign to be affixed
to the traffic light located on U.S. Highway 1 on Big Pine Key.
2. That the Clerk of said Board be and is hereby directed
to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the State of
Florida Department of Transportation for appropriate action.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 22nd day of August, A. D. 1986.

Honorable Mayor Harvey:
Thank you for returning my phone call.
As stated on the phone, it would be deeply appreciated a sign being approved
to hang directly beneath the traffic light on Big Pine Key directing traffic
to the Shopping center.
We assume that the State Road Department would accomplish such a job at the
request of the commission. We are suggesting a double faced sign such as
seen all around Florida directing to Business districts, Shopping areas,
Hospi tals, Emergency routes, etc. Ours to read "Shopping Plaza". ~
As you are aware, lIany keys residents and tourists alike are still unaware
of our exist~nce. This is due directly to the county's moratorium on signs.
We, the undersigned believe that this would give some measure of relief.
