RESOLUTION NO. 394 -1987
A RESOLUTION CALLING ON THE LEGISLATURE,
GOVERNOR AND CABINET OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA
TO AID THE COUNTIES, IF A ONE CENT ADDITIONAL
SALES TAX IS IMPOSED, SO AS TO PROVIDE A
DIVISION OF SUCH TAX AND MAKE AVAILABLE TO
COUNTIES ONE HALF THEREOF; INSTRUCTING THE
CLERK TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO
ALL LEGISLATORS, THE GOVERNOR, THE CABINET
AND THE STATE ASSOCIATION OF COUNTY COMMIS-
SIONERS.
WHEREAS, it has been discussed and it may come to pass that
the Florida Legislature will increase the sales tax by one
additional cent statewide; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature, as well as the Governor and
Cabinet are hereby respectfully advised that the Monroe County
Commission is of the judgment that such a tax, if passed, should
be divided equally with the counties; and
WHEREAS, the State Association of County Commissioners
should be advised of the action of the Monroe County Commission
and requested to participate in this effort; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNTY COMMISSION OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1. That the Legislature of the State of Florida
be requested to consider a division of the one cent sales tax to
be considered at Special Session and provide that one half
thereof should be available to the individual counties for their
use.
Section 2.
In that the local sales tax did not pass by
referendum in Monroe County, but failed only by a small margin,
relief has been denied Monroe County in the nature of additional
funds urgently needed to perform capital improvements and other
necessities now needed.
Section 3.
That all members of the Legislature be
afforded a copy of this resolution and that copies of the same be
forwarded to the Governor and the Cabinet of the State of
Florida; that additionally, a copy of this Resolution be
forwarded to the State Association of County Commissioners with a
request that they support such resolution.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
