Resolution 317-1984 Commissioner Wilhelmina Harvey RESOLUTION NO. 317 -1984 A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 1984 AS "MONROE COUNTY HOSPICE MONTH" AND AUTHORIZING THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO ISSUE AND EXECUTE A PROCLAMATION CALLING UPON ALL COUNTY AGENCIES, THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY, APPROPRIATE PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS, AND THE PEOPLE OF MONROE COUNTY TO OBSERVE THE MONTH WITH APPROPRIATE FORUMS, PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE COUNTY-WIDE RECOGNITION OF AND SUPPORT FOR HOSPICE CARE. WHEREAS, hospice care has been demonstrated to be a humanitarian way for terminally ill patients to approach the end of their lives in relative comfort with appropriate, competent and compassionate care in an environment of personal individually and dignity, and WHEREAS, hospice advocates care of the patient and family by attending to their physical, emotional and spiritual needs and specifically, the pain and grief they experience, and WHEREAS, hospice care is provided by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, phycho- logical and spiritual counselors and other community volunteers trained in the hospice concept of care, and WHEREAS, hospice care is rapidly becoming a full partner in the Nation's health care system, and WHEREAS, Hospice of the Florida Keys, Inc. is a local effort comprised of citizens of Monroe County, for Monroe County, and will further add to the acquisition of a complete Health Care Community, and WHEREAS, November 1984 has been designated by the U.S. Senate, Congress and Florida State Legislature as National and State Hospice month respectively, and WHEREAS, a Seminar for Hospice Volunteers is scheduled for November 30, 1984 through December 1, 1984, and said Seminar will confirm Hospice of the Florida Keys, Inc. as a viable Hospice program, and WHEREAS, there remains a great need to increase public awareness of the benefits of hospice care, now, therefore, ~E IT RESOLVED ~Y THE ~OARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: 1. The month of November 1984 is hereby designated as "Monroe County Hospice Month". 2. That the ~oard is hereby authorized to issue and execute a Proclamation proclaiming the month of November 1984 to be designated as "Monroe County Hospice Month," and calling upon all County agencies, the medical community, appropriate private organizations and the people of Monroe County to observe the month with appropriate forums, programs and activities designed to encourage County-wide support for Hospice care as a humane response to the needs of the terminally ill and recognizing Hospice as a viable component of the health care system of Monroe County, Florida.
