RESOLUTION NO. 396 -1984
A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING AREAS WITHIN MONROE
COUNTY IN WHICH HAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE
FACILITIES MAY BE LOCATED.
WHEREAS, there have been enacted both Federal and State
statutes regulating the storage and disposal of hazardous waste,
which statutes have been implemented by the Federal Environmental
Protection Agency and the State of Florida Department of Environ-
mental Regulation through the promulgation of administrative
rules, and
WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature has established a Florida
Hazardous Waste Management Program and as part of such program
has mandated that each county is to designate areas within the
county in which a hazardous waste storage facility may be locat-
ed, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Environmental Regulation is
requiring Monroe County to designate before January 1, 1985, two
(2) sites at which the County would allow hazardous waste storage
facilities to be located in the event the same are required, now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
1. That the following areas are designated as areas in
which hazardous waste storage facilities may be located:
Cudjoe Key -- Township 66 South, Range 28 East,
Section 19.
Latitude 24 degrees 40 minutes 30 seconds North.
Longitude 81 degrees 30 minutes 30 seconds West.
Long Key -- Township 65 South, Range 35 East,
Sections 4 and 5.
Latitude 24 degrees 48 minutes 30 seconds North.
Longitude 80 degrees 48 minutes 06 seconds West.
Key Largo -- Township 60, Range 40 East, Section 10.
Latitude 25 degrees 18 minutes 55 seconds North.
Longitude 81 degrees 20 minutes 0 seconds West.
2. That in the event such facilities are ever located at
the designated sites, such facilities shall not be for disposal
of any kind, but shall only be for storage up to a maximum of 90
days. Further, any such storage shall include only the warehous-
ing of contained waste in enclosed buildings permitted, inspect-
ed, and certified as to safety by the State.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 14th day of December, A.D. 1981.
