RESOLUTION NO. 270 -1983
RESOLUTION APPROVING CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 AMENDING THE
CONTRACT BY AND BETWEEN UPPER KEYS MARINE CONSTRUC-
TION, INC. AND MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, COVERING AN
EXTENSION OF TIME TO COMPLETE BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
(PERMANENT) - COPA D'ORO BRIDGE PROJECT.
WHEREAS, Monroe County, Florida, previously entered into a
contract with Upper Keys Marine Construction, Inc. for the
permanent replacement of Copa D'Oro Bridge, Monroe County,
Florida, and
WHEREAS, after the contract letting and during construction
it was determined that it would be necessary to extend the
contract time for completion of this project by thirty (30) days
due to the large amount of loose fill and boulders encountered on
the canal bottoms at bents 2, 3 and 4 which caused an undue
amount of excess time in punching the holes in the rock to set
the piling for bents 2, 3, and 4, and
WHEREAS, Upper Keys Marine Construction, Inc. has issued
Change Order No. 1 to cover the above described additional time
and submitted said Change Order to the Board of County
Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, for its approval, now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
1. That said Board of County Commissioners hereby approves
Change Order No. 1 to that certain contract entered into by and
between Monroe County, Florida, and Upper Keys Marine
Construction, Inc. for the permanent replacement of Copa D'Oro
Bridge in Monroe County, Florida.
2. That said Board also approves and authorizes the
adjustment to be made in the Contract Price and Time as contained
in said Change Order No.1.

Passed and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 14th day of October, A.D. 1983.

Nature of. the Change: Upper Keys Marine Construction has requested a 30 day .
extension to the contract for the above project. They cite as extenuating
circumstances the large amount of loose fill and boulders encountered on the
canal bottoms at bents 2, 3 and 4, which was unanticipated and caused an undue
amount of excess time in punching the holes in the rock to set the piling for
bents 2, 3 and 4. Based on our frequent visitation to the construction site,
we tend to agree with the contractor regarding the excess amount of loose fill
in the channel .
Inclement weather (non working days) was also a factor and we recommend that the
requested 30 day. extension be granted.
