Resolution 232A-1983 RESOLUTION NO. 232A -l983 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CREATION OF A COMMITTEE TO WORK WITH THE NAVY DEPARTMENT CONCERNING TRUMAN ANNEX. WHEREAS, the Key West Redevelopment Authority has worked over a long period of time in trying to resolve the problems of the re- lease of properties in Truman Annex for private use, and WHEREAS, the City Commission of Key West has followed with great interest these efforts, and WHEREAS, the County Commission desires to cooperate to the ful- lest extent with both the City of Key West and the Key West Redevelop- ment Authority, and at the suggestion of the Redevelopment Authority, does feel that the establishment of a committee by the City of Key West to work directly with the Navy Department in going forward with the release of properties in Truman Annex for the use of the public and the betterment of the City of Key West and the County, and WHEREAS, the County Commission hereby requests the City Commis- sion of Key West to consider the appointment of a Key West Navy Land Use Committee to be composed of one (I) City Commissioner, one (I) County Commissioner, one (I) representative of the financial community, one (l) representative of the real estate sales community and one (I) representative from the Key West Chamber of Commerce. It is further suggested that the Committee be formed by the City Commission of Key West and appointed by said Commission with their duties outlined and designated in proper fashion. One of the duties hereby suggested would be for this Committee to review the utility and need of the Truman Annex at various times, but not less than every six months; and that in each six-month interval, this Committee shall meet in Washington with the proper designated officials of the Navy Department and Federal government to facilitate the proper and reasonable use of the property known as Truman Annex, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: -2- The recommention of the Key West Redevelopment Authority be followed in that the City of Key West, through its Commission, be called on to create a special committee that will work directly with the Navy Department in trying to resolve the problems attendant to the release of properties in Truman Annex. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD, realizing the need for co- operation with the City Commission of Key West for the development of the Truman Annex property, it is respectfully suggested that the City Commission of Key West appoint a Key West Navy Land Use Com- mittee to be composed of one (I) City Commissioner, one (I) County Commissioner, one (I) representative of the financial community, one (l) representative of the real estate sales community and one (l) representative from the Key West Chamber of Commerce. BE IT ALSO FURTHER RESOLVED that said Committee, after being created, be instructed to meet no less than every six months in Washington with representatives of the Navy Department and Federal government to study and facilitate a reasonable and proper use of this property. BE IT ALSO FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD that the Clerk of said Board is hereby instructed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the City Commission of Key West and the Key West Redevelopment Authority.
