RESOLUTION'ENCOURAGING KEY WEST REDEVELOPMENT
AGENCY TO CONSIDER THE PRESERVATION OF THE
DOUGLAS'SCHOOL BUILDING.
WHEREAS, old :Douglas School'was- completed in 1925; and
WHEREAS, the U.S: Navy -.took over the school in 1942 and
used it during the: -war years; and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,:.
Flo.rida;'desires t•o recognize the heritage of our black.community;
and
WHEREAS, the school -can be useful for civic purposes; now, -
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA: as follows.::
1. •That the Board of County'Commissioners of Monroe•County,
Florida; hereby encourages the Key West Redevelopment Agency to.
consider the preservation' -of the old Douglas School Building.
2. That the Clerk of -said Board is hereby directed. to send
a certified copy of this resolution to.Key West Redevelopment
Agency..
