"- 6' . lOOS Dear Sheriff Roth, ~ ~~\L /--\ · J l~ "S tP~ \,(>O~M '$ ~ Dt)'Dr -t .J~- <tf4oS' ~~ March 31, 2005 Sol Fest 2005 5855 College Road Key West, FI. 33040 509~ 1370 revelinn@monroe,k 12. tl. us Once again it's that time of year for us to ask you for support for the Keys Kids and the Key West Symphony's summer music camp, Sol Fest. Sol Fest will run for the entire month of June at Key West High School for students from Kindergarten to High School. In the past, your support has enabled children of all ages to include all of the Lower Keys to participate in this program. We have refused no child for this program and after adding the Steel Pan Program to Sol Fest we were able to accommodate 30 children from Bahama Village. Your support in this program allowed a yearly program of Steel Pan sponsored by the Key West Symphony and the Bahama Village Music Program which has over 30 children playing steel pans on a yearly basis. This would have not been possible without your support. Thanks to your help we have seen these same kids join bands at the middle school and high school level. We are thrilled to see some even become professional musicians. 2005 is a critical year for funding because our enrollment has more than doubled from the previous year. Scholarships are given to anyone in need that has applied. We have over 40% of our students enrolled on scholarship. Sol Fest will be expanding this year to be an all day music camp with the new addition of a band program which will target primarily junior high and high school children. This new emphasis on instruction in brass, woodwind and percussion will not only extend our curriculum and our instructors but also add numerous more children to this program. Please help us keep this program growing by providing the financial aid necessary for so many children in need. The camp will operate on a full day program which will make our costs increase We are thrilled that the program has grown in enrollment yet this means we must hire more staff and bear the burden of added costs. We are asking you for a $12,000.00 commitment to make this work for June of2005. We look forward to your continued support and engaging so many kids in music for the summer of 2005. A'~
