I Commissioner George Neugent, Dist. 2 Commissioner David Rice, Dist. 4 DATE: 1 December, 2005 TO: Board of County Commissioners FROM: George Garrett, Director of Marine Resources SUBJECT: 1Vlonroe County Marine Nlanagement Plan Summary On February 16 2005, the Board authorized a contract with the South Florida Regional Planning Council (SFRPC) and Florida Atlantic University, Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions (CUES) to complete a Marine Management Plan for the Florida Keys. The purpose of this effort was then and is to protect remaining working water fronts from redevelopment away from water dependant uses. Complimentary to this action, the Board agreed to impose an interim development ordinance which would limit the types of redevelopment that could occur at the County's working waterfront properties, pending the outcome of the Management Plan and the development and adoption of new ordinances to protect remaining working waterfronts. The SFRPC and CUES have been working with the public and County staff to complete the Management Plan. All background work and documentation is complete. Final presentation documents are being completed prior to the end of the year. The SFRPC and CUES staff will make a presentation to the Board in December. Recommendations for future Board action will be presented in the final documents. Later presentations concerning final recommendations will be made to the Board in January. Board Action Required Review presentation with SFRPC and CUES. BC051250 Boee Mcmo, doc l2!l!2005 9:43;00 AM
