Agenda Item Wording: Approval to terminate a contract for the purchase of property in Silver Shores
Estates subdivision.
Item Background: Ms. Denise Bailey requests approval to terminate her contract to sell Block 6, Lot 1
of Silver Shores Estates subdivision on Ramrod Key to the Land Authority. Rather than selling the lot to
the Land Authority, Ms. Bailey prefers to sell the lot to a third party, who in turn plans to dedicate the lot
to Monroe County for ROGO points. The County Growth Management staff has confirmed that the lot is
eligible for ROGO points.
The Land Authority initiated this purchase in order to protect the land from development and to satisfy
the acquisition requirements for CARL land in the County's Comprehensive Plan Work Program. Both
of these objectives will be satisfied if the property ends up being dedicated to the County for RaGa
points. If the Land Authority proceeds with closing the transaction the cost will be $4,883.50, as
compared to the cost of the $85.00 title search fee if the contract is terminated.
Advisory Committee Action: On April 23, 2002 the Advisory Committee voted 3/0 to approve the
request to terminate the purchase contract.
Previous Governing Board Action: On February 14, 2002 the Board approved the subject purchase
contract.

Staff Recommendation: Approval, in keeping with the Land Authority's policy of only buying property
from willing sellers.
