ITEM BACKGROUND: Both the life safety code and fire prevention code have been adopted by the State of Florida to create a standard for all jurisdictions. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: Adopted the 1994 editions of the life safety code and fire prevention code. TOTAL COST: COST TO COUNTY: BUDGETED: Yes 0 No 0 APPROVED BY: County Attorney _ OMB/Purchasing 0 Risk Management 0 DIVISION DIRECTOR APPROVAL:~ ~~ ~ RI K . , DOCUMENTAnON: Included 0 To Follow 0 Not Required 0 AGENDA ITEM # ,/1 ;/ Board of County Commissioners ORDINANCE NO. - 2002 AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, AMENDING SEC. 6.6-6, MONROE COUNTY CODE, IN ORDER TO ADOPT THE 2000 EDITIONS OF THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTEcnON ASSOCIATION (NFPA-l), AND THE 2000 EDITION OF THE LIFE SAFETY CODE NFPA-l0l; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF ALL ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION INTO THE MONROE COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFEcnVE DATE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA: Section 1. Sec. 6.6-6, Monroe County Code, is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 6.6-6. Fire safety codes adopted. (a) The StaRdard National Fire Preventiqn Code -1994 2000 Edition which ~ incorporated into this section by reference, is hereby adopted for use in the unincorporated areas of Monroe County, Florida, as the minimum fire safety code. (b) The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101, Life Safety Code, -1994 2000 edition, which is incorporated into this section by reference, is hereby adopted for use in the county as the minimum fire safety code. Section 2. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or provision of this ordinance is held invalid, the remainder of this ordinance shall not be affected by such invalidity. Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of said conflict. Section 4. The provisions of this ordinance shall be included and incorporated in the Code of Ordinances of the County of Monroe, Florida, as an addition or amendment thereto, and shall be appropriately renumbered to conform to the uniform numbering system of the Code. Section 5. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon receipt of official notice from the Office of the Secretary of State of the State of Florida that this ordinance has been filed with said Office.
