Thursday, June 16, 1999
Marathon, Florida
A Special Meeting of the Monroe County Board of County
Commissioners convened at 6:30 P.M., on the above date, at the
Marathon Government Center. Present and answering to roll call
were Commissioner Shirley Freeman, Commissioner George Neugent,
Commissioner Mary Kay Reich, Commissioner Nora Williams and Mayor
Wilhelmina Harvey. Also present were Danny L. Kolhage, Clerk;
James T. Hendrick, County Attorney; James Roberts, County
Administrator; County Staff, members of the press and radio; and
the general public.
All stood for the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance.

ADDITIONS, CORRECTIONS, DELETIONS
There were no Additions, Corrections or Deletions to
the Agenda.
PUBLIC WORKS
Attorney Hal Schuhmacher, representing Monroe County
Animal Control Director Cindy Harper, and Richie Moretti
addressed the Board. After Board discussion, motion was made by
Commissioner Williams and seconded by Commissioner Freeman
granting approval of an Agreement between Monroe County and the
Florida Keys Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for
operation of the Key West, Big pine Key and Marathon Animal
Shelters in the amount of $456,700 per year, and authorization
for the Mayor to execute same, contingent upon the list of
contingencies being met and contingent upon approval of the
Office of Management & Budget, Risk Management and the County
Attorney. Roll call vote was unanimous.

Motion was made by Commissioner Freeman and seconded by
Commissioner Neugent granting approval of an assignment of the
animal disposal agreement between Monroe County and Animal
Disposal & Private Cremations from Monroe County to the Florida
Keys Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, contingent

upon approval of the County Attorney.
unanimously.
Motion carried
Motion was made by Commissioner Reich and seconded by
commissioner williams granting approval to waive the variance
application fee ($975) for Michelle wisniewski, 1008 Calico Jack
Circle, cudjoe Key, Florida, for an outside wheelchair lift
device. Motion carried unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the
Board, motion was made by Commissioner Freeman and seconded by
commissioner williams to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried
unanimously.
