05/11/2010 Special/Workshop 80 MINUTES OF THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Special Meeting/Workshop Board of County Commissioners Tuesday, May 11, 2010 Key Largo, Florida A Special Meeting of the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners convened at 1:00 P.M., at the Murray E. Nelson Government & Cultural Center. Present and answering to roll call were Commissioner Heather Carruthers, Commissioner Mario DiGennaro, Commissioner Kim Wigington, Commissioner George Neugent and Mayor Sylvia Murphy. Also present at the meeting were Roman Gastesi, County Administrator; Debbie Frederick, Assistant County Administrator; Suzanne Hutton, County Attorney; Danny L. Kolhage, Clerk; County Staff, members of the press and radio; and the general public. DISCUSSION ON THE THREAT OF THE OIL LEAKING FROM THE DEEP WATER HORIZON DRILLING Connie Cyr, Aide to the County Administrator read a letter into the record from Michael W. Sole, Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection concerning an update on the Deep Water Horizon. Mayor Murphy read into the record the State of Florida, Office of the Governor's Executive Order No. 10-101, establishing the Gulf Oil Spill Economic Recovery Task Force. The Mayor advised that there were index cards available for members of the public to write down their questions that would be provided to the appropriate participant for answering. Mayor Murphy introduced the following participants: Roman Gastesi, Monroe County Administrator; Irene Toner, Director - Monroe County Emergency Management; Andy Newman, representing Stuart Newman Associates, Inc. d/b/a Newman PR; Sean Morton, NOAA- Superintendent - Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary; Captain Pat DeQuattro, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Commander; Gus Rios, representing the Florida Department of Environmental Protection; Roy Coley, representing the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority; Jim Callahan, Chief - Monroe County Fire Rescue; Rick Ramsey, Undersheriff - Monroe County Sheriffs Office; Anne Morkill, U.S. Fish & Wildlife; Tom Genovese, South Florida Water Management District; Craig Marston, Division Chief, Key West Emergency Management; Skip Haring, Administrative Assistant, City of Layton; Ginger Snead, Mayor - City of Marathon; Michael Reckwerdt, Mayor - Village oflslamorada; Ron Sutton, Mayor - City of Key Colony Beach; Bob Eadie, Administrator - Monroe County Health Department; Keith Seilhan, and British Petroleum - Director of Operations - Florida West Coast. Roman Gastesi, Monroe County Administrator gave a power point presentation on the oil leaking from the Deep Water Horizon Drilling. 81 The following speakers addressed the Board: Captain Pat DeQuattro, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Commander; Keith Seilhan, British Petroleum - Director of Operations - Florida West Coast; and Irene Toner, Director - Monroe County Emergency Management. Closing comments were made by members of the Commission. Mayor Murphy thanked all of the participants. There being no further business, the meeting of the Board of County Commissioners was adjourned.
