Special Meeting/Budget Hearing
Board of County Commissioners
Wednesday, September 11, 1996
Key West, Florida
A Special Meeting of the Monroe County Board of County
Commissioners convened at 5:00 p.m., on the above date, at the
Holiday Inn Beachside. Present and answering to roll call were
Commissioners Keith Douglass, Jack London, Mary Kay Reich and
Mayor Shirley Freeman. Absent was Wilhelmina Harvey. Also present
were Danny L. Kolhage, Clerk; Isabel C. DeSantis, Deputy Clerk;
Suzanne Hutton, Assistant County Attorney; James Roberts, County
Administrator; County Staff, members of the Press and Radio; and
the general public.
All stood for the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance.
There were no Additions, Corrections, or Deletions to
the Agenda.
County Administrator, James Roberts, made a
presentation and discussed the budget for Fiscal Year 1996/97.
Mr. Roberts presented certain proposed reductions in the
Tentative Budget in the amount of $272,061.
John DOlan-Heitlinger, representing the Key West
Chamber of Commerce, addressed the Board.
Mr. Roberts discussed the approval of Rates for Group
Insurance premium for County employees and the Fiscal Year 1997
Capital Improvements Program. Both items are to be voted on at
the Public Hearing on September 19, 1996 at 5:05 p.m. at the
Marathon Government Center, Marathon Key, Florida.
Motion was made by Commissioner Reich and seconded by
Commissioner Douglass to approve the Administrator's
recommendations for reductions in the budget according to the
attached Schedule for a total reduction of $272,061. Roll call
vote was unanimous, with Commissioner Harvey not present.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS
The Board of Governors of District #1 Lower and Middle
Keys Fire and Ambulance District convened. Present and answering
to roll call were Mayor Freeman, Commissioner London,
Commissioner Halenza, and Chairman Douglass. Absent was
Commissioner French.
Chairman Douglass asked for public input into the
tentative budget of the Municipal Services District I. There was
no public input.
There being no further business, the meeting of the
Board of Governors of District #1 Lower and Middle Keys Fire and
Ambulance District and the Board of County Commissioners
adjourned.
