06/24/1993 Special 93/289 MINUTES OF THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Special Meeting Board of County Commissioners Thursday, June 24, 1993 Key Colony Beach A Special Meeting of the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners convened at 11:30 a.m. on the above date at the Key Colony Beach City Hall in Key Colony Beach. Present and answering to roll call were Commissioners Earl Cheal, Shirley Freeman, Wilhelmina Harvey, Mary Kay Reich, and Mayor Jack London. Also present were Danny L. Kolhage, Clerk; Randy Ludacer, County Attorney; County Staff; Representatives of Bartell & Bartell, Ltd; members of the Press and Radio; and the general public. All stood for the Invocation and Pledge of •Allegiance. This is a special meeting to conduct assessments and interviews of county administrator candidates. The assessment team, consisting of Dr. Roderick Bartell, Dr. William Brashers, Virginia Barker, Bud Post and Ed Block from the advisory committee, proceeded with the assessment of county administrator candidate, Charles Balczun. Following the center assessment activities, the Board of County Commissioners questioned Mr. Balczun. Following the assessment of Mr. Balczun, Dr. Roderick Bartell made a presentation concerning the relative merits of all the candidates. The Board discussed the selection process. The Board heard comments from Mr. Ed Block, Judy Greenman and Bud Post, members of the selection committee. The Board also considered comments by Human Resources Director, Paula Rodriguez, Virginia Barker, the Clerk and the County Attorney. The Board then proceeded with a discussion of the candidates. After discussion, motion was made by Commissioner Cheal and seconded by Commissioner Freeman to initiate negotiations for a contract with Mr. James Roberts to serve as County Administrator for Monroe County. Roll Call vote was taken with the following results: Commissioner Cheal Yes 93/290 Commissioner Freeman Yes Commissioner Harvey No Commissioner Reich Yes Mayor London Yes Motion carried. After discussion, motion was made by Mayor London, and seconded by Commissioner Cheal to reconsider the previous motion. Motion reconsideration was unanimous. Following reconsideration of the original motion, roll call was taken with the following results: Commissioner Cheal Yes Commissioner Freeman Yes Commissioner Harvey No Commissioner Reich Yes Mayor London Yes Motion carried. Motion was made by Commissioner Cheal and seconded by Commissioner Freeman to make Mr. Mahan the number two selection for the position of County Administrator.
