04/20/2001 Special MINUTES OF THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS 2001/135 Special Meeting Board of County Commissioners Friday, April 20, 2001 Marathon, Florida A Special Meeting of the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners convened at 10:00 AM., on the above date at the Marathon Government Center. Present and answering to roll call were Commissioner Murray Nelson, Commissioner Dixie Spehar, Commissioner Nora Williams, and Mayor George Neugent. Absent was Commissioner Charles "Sonny" McCoy. Also present were James Roberts, County Administrator; James T. Hendrick, County Attorney; Danny L. Kolhage, Clerk; County Staff, members of the press and radio; and the general public. All stood for the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. ADDITIONS, CORRECTIONS, DELETIONS There were no Additions, Corrections or Deletions made to the Agenda. MEETING OF MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENTS ON THE SUBJECT OF FEDERAL FUNDING FOR WATER QUALITY IMPROVEMENTS The Board proceeded with introduction of the County Commission staff, representatives from the City of Key West; Islamorada, Village ofIslands; City of Key Colony Beach; and the City of Layton. Also present were the following Special Guests: Nancy Muller, Department of Community Affairs (DCA), Facilitator for the meeting; Bob Freeman, United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA); Dick Smith, Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP); Roger Braun, Kerry Shelby, Jack Teague, and Paul Feldman, Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority (FKAA); Ken Williams, CH2MHill; and George Garrett, Monroe County Marine Resources. Jody Thomas of the Nature Conservancy addressed the Board concerning the purpose of the meeting and the need for unity among the various governmental entities that would be seeking the federal funding for wastewater and stormwater projects. Commissioner Williams addressed the joint Commissions and staff Bob Freeman of the US EPA addressed the Board. Kerry Shelby of the FKAA made a slide presentation for the joint meeting. Debbie Harrison of the World Wildlife Fund addressed the Board. After closing comments and discussion by the participants and Ms. Muller - DCA Facilitator, the meeting adjourned. 04/20/01 2001/136 Danny L.
