Agenda Item Wording: Approval to add property to the Acquisition List - Mandalay subdivision.
Item Background: This addition to the Acquisition List is proposed to provide land for the development
of affordable housing (rental) in partnership with the Monroe County Housing Authority. The subject
property consists of a 0.72 acre parcel in Mandalay subdivision on Key Largo and is currently
developed with one duplex. The property is zoned Urban Residential (UR) and designated Residential
High (RH) on the Future Land Use Map. Based on this zoning, the site can be developed with up to 14
units (12 additional units) of affordable housing as-of-right. Using 12 of the 50 ROGO allocations the
County Commission previously reserved for the Housing Authority's scattered site program, the
Housing Authority proposes to develop the site with twelve additional units clustered in groups of three
or four attached dwellings. If the County regulations allow, this affordable housing would be reserved
for the elderly.
The addition of property to the Acquisition List is a preliminary, non-binding step indicating the Board's
desire to pursue acquisition. Further Board action is required before the Land Authority could purchase
the subject property.
Advisory Committee Action: On February 26, 2001 the Advisory Committee voted 4/0 to approve this
item.
