RESOLUTION NO. 120 -1990
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMIS-
SIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, ENDORSING
THE 1990 CENSUS.
WHEREAS, the Decennial Census of Population and Housing is
mandated by the United States Constitution to determine represen-
tation in the United States House of Representatives. Similarly,
census data is used to determine the allocation of billions of
dollars to federal, state and local governments and to help the
nation measure levels of poverty, unemployment, housing and
education. Community organizations, businesses, planning agen-
cies, and religious groups use census data for program planning,
grants, research, fundraising, and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Title 13 of the United States Code prevents the
Bureau of the Census from releasing any personal information
collected, thereby assuring that each individual's confidentially
is protected; and
WHEREAS, the 1990 census will create more than 400,000 new
temporary job opportunities that require persons with good work
ethics and determination; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1. That the Board will endorse the Bureau of the
Census goal of a complete and accurate enumeration in the 1990
census.
Section 2. That the Board will publicize its endorsement of
the 1990 census through its own publications and through the
external media, urging its full membership and the public to
cooperate.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held on
