I would like to request that the Commission authorize the following
expenditures from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund:

Dear Sheriff Roth:
I would like to take this time to introduce myself, my name is David Gootee I am the new head
coach for the Key West High Lady Conchs Fast Pitch Softball Program and I would like to
personally thank you for your most generous support of the Lady Conchs Softball Team over the
past two seasons. Our upcoming season is rapidly approaching and once again we are asking for
your support. One of the highlights of our schedule is a tournament in Orlando called the
Kissimmee Klassic, it is the tournament you have enabled The Lady Conchs Softball Team to
attend in previous years. This tournament has given the softball players the opportunity to be
observed by college coaches and subsequently over the last two years three of our players were
offered college scholarships. We will have 5 seniors returning this year and we are hopeful that
offers of playing softball at the college level will be offered to them; our job as coaches is to
have them Show Cased at these tournaments and we can only do that with your support. I would
like to Thank You in advance for your support and look forward to seeing you at our games.
Sincerely.

December 4. 200~ 1f7-.LJ
Dear ~ f~
Last month, we were thrilled to sign Take Stock In Children contracts with 42 handpicked 7th graders!
Once again, we have set new records for student participation.
We are celebrating our eighth year in Monroe County. Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty through
education----one child at a time----and we're doing it! Our unique mentoring and scholarship program starts at
7th grade and continues through graduation from college. All qualifying Monroe County middle and high
school students from low-income families having the desire, motivation, and ability to go to college are
automatically admitted to our program.
Take Stock In Children is the only student~mentoring program that combines successful mentoring with a fully
paid scholarship that pays all required student fees and tuition for four years. Your contribution of $3,000 this
year will enable one more Monroe County student to attend college. Through the years, our local leadership
donors-Edward Knight, John Padget, Sheriff Rick Roth, the Rodel Foundation, the Keys Children's
Foundation, and a new anonymous donor in 2006--participate in varying degrees to match your individual
contributions. All local monies raised will be matched by the state legislature. OUR PlllLOSOPHY OF
"DOUBLE-MATCHING" MEANS WE REALIZE $4 FOR EVERY $1 THAT YOU CONTRIBUTE. AND,
AS AL WAYS, 100% OF YOUR CONTRIBUTION GOES TO THE CHILDREN AND NONE TO
ADMIN ISTRA TIVE OR OTHER COSTS.
Many of our contributors have a tradition of financing one or more students every year, now at the rate of
$3,000 per student. But, we remind you that all contributions are matched, so all donations are welcome.
We solicit your support only once a year. We don't do fund-raisers, events, or dinners. We send you this one
letter inviting your support. The campaign begins today and ends at our annual Donors' Forum, which will be
held at 5 p.m. on Monday, February 5,2007 at the Women's Club, 319 Duval Street in Key West. The Donors'
Forum is the annual business meeting to inform donors about the progress of Take Stock in Monroe County.
Please try to attend and rejoice with us!
Please return your pledge card and confmn your attendance for February 5th to celebrate the end of the
campaign.
