RESOLUTION NO. 255-1990
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMIS-
SIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, URGING
THAT THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
ADOPT A TRAFFIC ENGINEERING MODEL FOR
COMMUNITIES SERVED BY ONE ARTERIAL HIGHWAY
AND LARGELY NON-GRID LOCAL ROADS/MINOR
ARTERIALS.
WHEREAS, the current Florida Department of Transportation
traffic engineering models presume that a community has at least
several maj or arterial highways and a grid system feeding into
those highways; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County is unique in having only one maj or
arterial road (US 1) from Key Largo to Key West and a largely
non-grid pattern of local streets and minor arterials; and
WHEREAS, to apply traffic engineering models developed for
mainland use to Monroe County results in doctrine driving
reality; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
1. The Department of Transportation is hereby urged to
develop and adopt a traffic engineering model or models
reflecting the unique highway situation in Monroe County.
2. The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to forward a
certified copy of this Resolution to the Department of Transpor-
tation of the State of Florida for appropriate action.
