RESOLUTION NO. 283-1990
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMIS-
SIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, ACKNOWL-
EDGING THE RADIO AMATEUR CIVIL EMERGENCY
SERVICE (RACES) VOLUNTEER RESPONSE GROUP.
WHEREAS,
the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service
(RACES) volunteer response group is an organization of amateur

~de~l ~o~unications Commission Rules and Regulations, was

created in 1952 primarily to serve in a Civil Defense emergency
and has since enabled amateur radio operators to perform
emergency communication functions as an important supplement to
state and local Civil Defense communications, and
WHEREAS, RACES members assist in Emergency Operations
Centers in times of disasters, and
WHEREAS, during wartime, RACES is the only amateur radio
service group that is authorized to transmit, and
WHEREAS, Monroe County's RACES is a very active group that
is registered with the State Division of Communications and is
comprised of sixteen members, and
WHEREAS, Monroe County RACES has responded on numerous local
emergencies and accidents and has helped with communication
problems in the past, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board hereby acknowledges the
RACES Volunteer Response Group and recognizes the importance of
this worthy group and the contributions of its members.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of the Board held on
the ~ day of May, 1990.
