S lONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO
PETITION THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION TO DESIGNATE U.S. HIGHWAY 1 AS
HARRY S. TRUMAN BLUE STAR OVERSEAS MEMORIAL
HIGHWAY.
WHEREAS, Florida Statutes 335.091 sets out the requirements
of the Blue Star Memorial Highway designation program; and
WHEREAS, the head of the Department of Transportation in
cooperation with the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. is
authorized to designate certain roads in this State in honor of
those individuals who have served or are serving in the Armed
Forces of the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,
Florida, desires that U.S. Highway 1 be designated as Harry S.
Truman Blue Star Overseas Memorial Highway; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
1. A petition be filed with the Florida Department of
Transportation to designate U. S. Highway 1 as Harry S. Truman
Blue Star Overseas Memorial Highway.
2. The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to forward a
certified copy of this Resolution to the Department of Transpor-
tation and to the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. for
appropriate action.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 30th day of May, A.D. 1990.
