Sheriff S"san Benton of Highlands County and I c"rren~represent the Clorida Sheriffs
Association on the Missing Children Information Clearinghouse Advisory Board. As
representatives of FSA, we are donating $500 each from proceeds seized under the Florida
Contraband Forfeiture Fund to support the annual Florida Missing Children's ceremony; to
be held at the State Capitol in Tallahassee on September
11, 2007. Florida Missing Children's Day was created by the Florida
Legislature in 1999 and the ceremony on this day honors law enforcement officers and
civilians statewide who have assisted in missing child cases, and raises statewide
awareness to help prevent child abduction and sexual exploitation.
We would like to invite you to join us in this initiative by making a contribution from
your trust fund, showing your agency's support for this important statewide, law
enforcement-sponsored event?
Governor Charlie Crist; 100 school age children, and many law enforcement officers,
families of missing children and those families whose children did not survive their
abduction, will attend the ceremony on September 11th. Civilians who, under special
circumstances, have aided in missing child cases throughout the state will join them. The
following awards will be presented:
* Local Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
* State/Federal Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
* Law Enforcement Task Force/Team of the Year
* Law Enforcement Trailing Team of the Year
* School Buss Operator of the Year
* Citizen of the Year
* Evelyn Williams Memorial Award
* John and Reve' Walsh Award
* Fifth Grade Essay Contest Award
Sheriff Benton and I believe that one of the most beneficial uses of our law enforcement
trust fund monies is support of Florida Missing Children's Day. We hope you will
participate in this event by returning your contribution and the accompanying form and by
attending Florida Missing Children's Day 2007.
To fully appreciate the significance of this event; please take a minute to view a portion
of last years program at:

Dear Sheriff Roth:
I am requesting your sponsorship of one or more of our Odyssey of the Mind team so that they
may participate in the state tournament. This was the first year Gerald Adams had a team. We
just participated at the District competition and won. Our team is moving on to the State
Tournament on Apri114th. We need the funds to get our team to Orlando for the 3 day event. If
we should win at the state competition we would then be eligible for the World Tournament in
May at Michigan State University.
In order to take the 7 member team, 2 coaches and 2 chaperones to Orlando we would need $437
per person. Your sponsorship of one or more members would be terrific. We would need to
know how you can help by April 2, so that we can make all of the arrangements.
Odyssey of the Mind teaches students to learn creative problem-solving methods while having
fun in the process. For more than twenty five years, this program has helped teachers generate
excitement in their students. Students work collaboratively to solve a problem. The long-term
problems are solved over weeks and months. Some of the problems are more technical in nature
while others are artistic or performance based. Each long-term problem rewards "Style" in the
solution. This helps teach students that they should not simply try to solve problems but take the
next step of enhancing their solutions.
A team consists of seven members. Ours are in third and fourth grade. They chose to solve
problem #5: I'm Only Thinking of You! They have designed and made the costumes and back
drops, wrote and acted out the skit. The skit had to solve the requirements that the problem
presented to the students.
We are so proud of this team and really want to see them go on.
I am thanking you in advance for your time and consideration in this matter. If you have any
questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Would you have any room in your budget for an ad to support the Upper Keys Athletic Association Little League
Program?
They are in desperate need of funds to buy equipment and trophies for the children. I have attached a word
document, which is the sponsorship form, for your consideration. I will be collecting the sponsorship forms and
payments, as I have been designated by the Diamondbacks team to be their ad coordinator.
Thank you for your consideration.
