Emergency evacuation of the Keys · Incident management along US 1 from Florida City to Key West · Seasonal peak period control of traffic along US I · Traffic control support for major maintenance events that occur along US 1 in the Keys 't[fi g)nGUIDJ In case of emergency evacuation; such as, a hurricane, the deployment of ITS devices is beneficial: . The conditions may be assessed through use of CCTV and detector systems and the findings communicated to those evacuating through dynamic message signs (DMS) · This infom1ation may include traffic diversion, control of access in and out of the peak generators, shelter locations, location of bus pick ups, and whether to evacuate or not -\-?- l!Iil9~ll?! In case of incidents, many of them involving fatalities, ITS deployment should accomplish the following objectives: · Allow for early identification of response needs · Allow for diversion of traffic around the incident · Allow for demand reduction during incident period · Inform motorists of conditions to reduce frustration and anger -'f~ wrr9.Y!YJ {!c-rv - (j h1L CA.:1 U-M-:t.- {.dt I/) '~ oY> ') Holiday travel demand is very significant in the Florida Keys. US I and bridges; such as, the Jewfish Creek Draw Bridge, compete for capacity of areas. Hence, ITS would be beneficial in controlling and managing demand for the Keys. Some holiday events are: · Memorial Day · Fourth ofJuly · Labor Day · Halloween · New Year's Eve and Day · Lobster mini-season ,.:;...-,~.;.,.,. pol ~tp SUnGUIDf r..............~_ Bridges require periodic maintenance.
