Miss Florida Keys 2007
Brittany Ann McMillan was born on October 27,1987 in Baptist Hospital in
Miami, Florida. However, she lived her childhood with her parents John and
Sandy McMillan in Tavernier. After attending Plantation Key School, she
went on to become an active student at Coral Shores High School,
participating in organizations such as Key Club and National Honor Society.
She also held numerous leadership roles including Senior Class President,
Interact Parliamentarian, Editor of Clubs and Organizations for the
Yearbook, Senior Staff Writer for the school newspaper and a Student
Ambassador. She graduated from Coral Shores in 2006.
i" During Brittany's senior year at Coral Shores she had the opportunity to be
an intern for Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Her experiences
included working with prestigious members and groups of the community
including the Mayor of Key West, Business Professional Women, and the
Islamorada Chamber of Commerce. Before going off to college, the
Congresswoman presented her with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition.
Brittany's dance career began at a late age. Her passion for dance arose when she joined the dance team
at Coral Shores, the Canettes. After a year she became Co -Captain and was provided the chance to go to
New York City and perform in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. When she returned, she realized that
she wanted to experience all that dance had to offer. It was in 2005 that Joyce Bennett's School of
Performing; Arts accepted her into their program with a scholarship. She spent two years learning the
techniques of Classical Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Lyrical. With the dance school she competed at several
dance competitions and received numerous awards. She now dances at Florida State University and
recently auditioned for the Tallahassee Ballet.
Now, Brittany attends Florida State University where she plans to double major in Business
Entrepreneurship and Hospitality. Due to her hard work and intense schedule at Coral Shores she is
almost an entire year ahead of her peers. Brittany continues to succeed in academics with a 3.98 G.P.A.
and inductions into Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars and
future membership in Golden Key International National Honor Society. She is in the Honors program at
FSU and on the Dean's List.
Through personal experience Brittany developed her personal platform, Keeping Kids Active. Following
in the footsteps of VERB'S national campaign, Brittany has begun to create an awareness program, The
Keeping Kids Active Organization, which promotes physical, mental, and social activity among today's
youth. Her hopes are to improve the chances of producing sophisticated and responsible adults through
the positive. impact and early teaching skills provided by stimulating activity.
Brittany's future plans include obtaining a Master's degree in Business Administration, becoming a
ballerina for the Tallahassee Ballet, winning Miss Florida and eventually Miss America.
Brittany is a member of Mariner's Hospital Auxiliary and gives back to the community every school
break by volunteering her time to the hospital.
