RESOLUTION NO.293 -1980
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE KEY WEST REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY'S
REQUEST THAT THE IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION SERVICE
THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE TERMINATE ANY EFFORT TO
SECURE PROPERTY KNOWN AS TRUMAN ANNEX, KEY WEST, FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, the General Services Administration has engaged an
appraiser to establish the fair market value for surplus property
at the Truman Annex, Key West, Florida, and
WHEREAS, upon completion of said appraisal the Key West Re-
development Agency can begin negotiations for transfer of the
aforesaid surplus property such that it can be put to full use for
the benefit of the citizens of Monroe County and the City of Key
West, and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,
Florida has been informed by the Key West Redevelopment Agency
that the Immigration and Naturalization Service through the De-
partment of Justice is seeking to have a portion of the aforesaid
surplus property removed from the Key West Redevelopment Agency's
current lease, and
WHEREAS, any effort on the part of the Immigration and Natura1-
ization Service through the Department of Justice to remove a
portion of the surplus property from the total property will be
destructive to the overall effort of the Key West Redevelopment
Agency, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
1. That the Board does hereby support the Key West Redevelop-
ment Agency in its effort to terminate and/or stop the Immigration
and Naturalization Service through the Department of Justice from
obtaining any part of the Truman Annex surplus property as such
action will be totally detrimental to all persons concerned.
2. That the Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, is hereby directed t~ forward a copy of
this resolution to the President-Elect of the United States,
the Federal delegation representing Monroe County, Florida, and
the Key West Redevelopment Agency.
