Presentation by Commissioner Charles “Sonny” McCoy of
complimentary copies of his newly-published book The Architectural woks of Charles McCoy, AIA, to
the Monroe County Library for inclusion in the Florida History collection.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
Commissioner McCoy has recently completed this first volume of a
planned trilogy of books featuring his architectural works. These copies will be a valued addition to
the Library’s collection of Florida History.

OCTOBER 7 - 13, 2007
WHEREAS, Fire PrllWlntion WeeK was established to commemorate the
Great Chicago Fire of 1871 thai trauically klUed more than 250 people, 18ft
100,000 homelea, des~ more than 17,400 structures and burned more
than 2,000 IlCI'llS, and this event dlanged the way the firelighters and public
offlcials thought about fire safety.
WHEREAS, on the 40" 9Mnllrersary of the Great Chicago Fire. the FinI
Marshals PllociaIion at North America (today known as the Intemational Fire
Marshals Association), cledded that the annivel'88ry of the Great Chicago Fire
should henceforth be obseMld not with fe8\jyilies, but In a way that would keep
the pubic InlormoJd abou1 the importance of fire prevention.
WHEREAS, in 1920. President Woodrow IMI80n Ill8ued the first National
Fino Prevention Day proclamation, and Since 1922, National Fire Prevention
Week has been observed on the Sunday through SatUltlay perlod In which
Odober 9 110111I, and The PrllSident of the United S1a18s has signed a
proclamation pronouncing a n8tlonal observance during that WMk ENety year
since 1925.
WHEREAS, Fire Prevention WMk 2007 is October 7-13 with the theme

WHEREAS, recognition is due \0 all tire rescue personnel senring In a
variety of roles for their untllllfis/\ dedication to Florida's residents and visitors.
