Roberts County Administrator Clark Martin, Chie!: U Fire Rescue L/~ FROM: RE: 2003 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 Justification of Vehicle Option I have reviewed this request to purchase the I SJ option with the Chevrolet Suburban and concur that this is a necessary upgrade. The I SJ package includes power steering, power windows, remote door locks and upgraded wheel covers. The upgraded wheel covers are not necessary, however the power windows on this marked response vehicle will definitely enhance the safety of the battalion chief who is likely to be flagged-down to answer citizen requests at curbside. The remote door locks will also enhance his/her ability to exit the vehicle quickly and lock the door while the vehicle remains running to power emergency warning lighting. I am requesting that the vehicle be replaced with a 2003 Suburban specification # 10 to be purchased through the Florida Association & Florida Association of Counties. The vendor is Garber Chev. The following is justification for the purchase of option 1 SJ: The Battalion Chiefs vehicle is used 7 days a week. This vehicle is on the road from 8 to 15 hours daily. This vehicle is used as the Battalion Chiefs office. The options provided will help to make the Battalion Chiefs job easier to perform. For example this option includes electric windows. The Battalion Chiefs vehicle is a marked vehicle and many times they are stopped and approached by citizens from the right side of the vehicle. They have unbuckle their seat belt lean over and try to roll the window down and answer any questions that the citizen may have. When at a scene of an emergency the vehicle is never turned off by having electric door locks they can leave the key in the ignition with the vehicle running and still lock and secure all the equipment inside the vehicle. I feel that purchase of option 1SJ will enhance the performance of the Battalion Chiefs functions while in their vehicle. Should you have any questions or require additional information, please advise.
